How to digitise handwritten recipes and cookbook pages
The recipes that matter most are often on paper: a grandparent's card, a note in the margin, a page in a well-used cookbook. A photo keeps them safe; Pin a Pie also makes them searchable, scalable and easy to share.
- Start a scan. In Pin a Pie, open the New tab and tap Scan a recipe from a photo.
- Photograph the recipe. Choose Take photo, or Choose from library for photos you already have. Fill the frame with the page, in good light.
- Add the next page. If the recipe continues, tap Add a page after the first photo — or pick all the pages from your library in order.
- Check and save. Pin a Pie writes out exactly what's on the page — it doesn't correct or translate. Fix anything it couldn't read, then add it to a cookbook and save.
Good to know
- Handwriting is read as written: an odd amount stays odd until you change it.
- Swedish measures — dl, msk, tsk, krm — are understood, and can be shown in cups and spoons instead.
- Recipes from published cookbooks are best kept as drafts, for your own use.
